Prep time: 20 minutes , Cook time: 40 minutes ,
Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ tsp crushed garlic
  • ½ tsp salt
  • Juice from 1 lemon
  • ½ tsp ground turmeric
  • 1 ½ tsp ground cumin
  • 2 tbsp ground coriander
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp chilli powder
  • 2 tsp fish masala powder
  • Fish
  • 2 tbsp tomatoes, blended
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Mix all the ingredients together except the fish, tomatoes and onion, to form a marinade.
  2. Chop the fish into 5-10cm chunks and marinate for at least four hours and preferably overnight.
  3. Scrape the marinade off the fish and set aside. Then shallow fry each piece of fish individually.*
  4. Once all the fish has been fried, braise the diced onions in a saucepan. Once the onions are soft, add the marinade and tomatoes.
  5. Once the mixture turns a deep brown, add the fried fish pieces and serve with roti.

Tips

  • * The oil will spill a lot so use a deep frying pan. The fish will also make the kitchen smell so make sure you have the fan on when frying.
